Interview By WorldWideKeege
Waves come from tides created by the natural pull of the earths energy, yet this wave created by New Jersey artist, Afficial, can't be credited to the waves or tides, just his undying sauce. Hip Hop Weekly of course got a chance to sit down and get an exclusive look at who he is and where he is going. He was born into a proud Hatian family in the sinister streets of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Though everyone wants to be Zoe now, then it was more of a death sentence and the gang violence against the Hatian community was polarizing. Limiting where they could go, what they could do, and more. He uses his flag and heritage to his advantage now. " I rep my flag so much because people would hate on me and not want to be cool with me because I was Hatian. We couldn't go to parties because we were Hatian... the DJ would say turn the lights on and stop the whole party just bc the Haitians walked in." Imagine walking home from school, seeing your things outside on the ground and your family no where to be found. This is some of the tragedy that influenced Afficial's grind for his career. Though his childhood and teenage years were cut short because of life's circumstances, he didn't let that deter his focus and realizing that he wanted to give 150% to everything he does. Since he has broken as an artist, himself and his partner, Broccoli, have started a label called Unlimited Net Worth Records (U.N.W.R.) and been successful building a reputable brand for his rap career, "Kitchen Boyz". "We don't limit it (kitchen boyz). From a perspective most people would just think being in the kitchen and cooking drugs. We feel like you can't eat if you never go to the kitchen... Even if we are just cooking up ideas and brainstorming that IS cooking in the kitchen. Just thinking of new ways to get to the next level in life." Afficial started to make his mark in the music industry just earlier this year and has already been featured on Hot97, 105.1 The Beat, Sirius XM radio, and more!! Rapping is his highlight so far, yet he plans to change the way that trappers are viewed with his approach to the game. "Imagine a trapper being able to write something for the best pop artist in the industry. Like rick Ross accepting an award for writing a song for Beyoncé. I'm not gon' talk... one day we will have this conversation again and I'm going to say 'I told you so.'" Until songwriting becomes something that he receives awards for, he has been cooking up in his new single "Whip It" featuring MMG's own, Gunplay. The two combat decisive lyrics accompanied by a tantalizing hook over a banging beat full of 808's. Though he wasn't a star in the visual, the production became a party for Afficial's old stomping grounds. "(I'm just) bringing it back to my hood in the video. We cooked out for 2 days straight, liquor and food. RaRa (friend on top of gate doing a dance) said that 'The hood hadn't been like that for a long time' and it was good to see everybody in the merriment. Just to see the kids was great. (I looked over and) like 11 kids were with their phone out while shooting the video. It was just an all around good time." You can catch Afficial's video on BET Jams at the top of the year, until then stream his music on every major site you can think of including Spotify, Tidal, and more. "2017 will bring my rise to being one of the top musicians on this world. My career will be off glass. Whatever count they wanna put me in. I will be there.... I have records. I'm not playing with them. I love the camera. I have a nice personality and everything... I'm doing this for a bigger cause. We gotta' fix this world and get them right. It's so many things to do and so many people to help. I just wanna do it for them and show them that though we started at the bottom, the top is where we belong." Before he left our graces he had to drop a couple shoutouts for his loved ones... "God, Mom & Pops, Wife & Kids, Broccoli, Craig Jude, Sadi, Lehean, Aaron, Vlad, Phil Gates, Fever, Ricky, Vision, UPSTATE groove, eve, D-$mooth and all the Kitchen Boyz supporters across the nation! I would be nothing with out you all!" Stay Tuned for Afficial's come up, his new music, and what he has in store for the world in the near future!! Check out the video for "Whip It" below.

Hip-hop artist and producer FONG SAI U has made some real noise in the past several years with his brand of ‘true raw hip-hop’, his collaborations with industry greats, and his candid interviews.
Next to extensive tours and releases, he has written and produced music in various areas of the industry, including video games, movie scores and television themes. His current album, The Last Ronin, has been streamed on Sound Cloud more than 300,500 times. Recent highlights include a feature in celebrity drummer Mark Schulman’s book, Conquering Life’s Stage Fright, along with interviews in most major scene magazines. Hailing from Washington DC, Fong began following Black Thought in the early 1990s. “I was 15, catching the bus to every Roots show I could, just to rap for a few minutes. Black Thought took me under his wing, mentored me, then took me out on tour with him.” Guru of the legendary hip-hop duo Gangstarr was another major influence. “I met Guru on the Okay Player tour and became his hype man for a while. He was the first person to really pour belief into me and my productions.” Currently, FONG SAI U is finally ready to give us BLOOD ON MY LAWN . “I keep looking for new ways to express myself. I want my hip-hop to be original. I’m not into that fake ‘gangs, guns and jail’ BS.” With the new album dropping and US shows scheduled FONG is about to close this year out with A BANG !! |
