Rapper & storyteller, Nina Maria whose birth name is Adeje Baki Tart, was born in St. Louis, MO January 23. Nina Maria is hermaphrodite rapper & singer with plans of being a transgender.
"I named myself Nina Maria because for one, God, he called me Nina and I had a nine millimeter in my hand, and I like the name Maria from the show Sesame Street." Nina says, while reminiscing. Nina Maria has been rapping and singing since the tender age of seven and began playing the tenor sax while in middle school. "I didn't practice much, but I got by playing by ear. I started making beats around 2013, and I haven't stopped since then. I have schizoaffective disorder and that's one of the main reasons I usually freestyle my lyrics." the artist says. The young Nina Maria was very gifted and intelligent. He attended school in St. Louis up until 9th grade. From there, he begin to experience a few challenges. Shortly after his mom passed away. "I took it hard and ended up moving to Memphis, TN with my father for the rest of my high school years, I took advanced placement classes and graduated with a GPA of 5.0" says the artist. He also lived in Whitehaven as well as North Memphis. He graduated from Whitehaven High School. From there he went to Atlanta and studied a year at Morehouse, where he then realized he wanted to serve his country and ended up enlisting into the Marine Corps where he got two meritorious promotions and was a small computer systems specialist for four years. He was a Sergeant (E-5). After departing the USMC with an honorable discharge, he endured an unhealthy relationship, which really took a toll on him. It inspired him to write most of the music that's out today. The death of his USMC brother really hit home for him, causing him to have a nervous breakdown.
